Lynne Jacobs, Ph.D.Lynne has long been interested in the relational dimension of psychotherapy, and in integrating humanistic theories with contemporary psychoanalytic theories. Both a gestalt therapist and a psychoanalyst, she is a co-founder of PGI. She is also a training and supervising analyst of the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis (ICP) in Los Angeles. She teaches at ICP, and teaches gestalt therapists locally, nationally, and internationally. Lynne co-authored, with Richard Hycner, The Healing Relationship in Gestalt Therapy: A Dialogic, Self-Psychological Approach. Recent articles include “Shame in the Therapeutic Dialogue”, “Optimal Responsiveness and Intersubjectivity Theory”, and “Pathways to a Relational Worldview.” She has a private practice in West Los Angeles. Lillian Norton, M.D., M.F.T., L.A.D.C.Lillian has been intensely involved with gestalt therapy since 1993. She has been certified as a gestalt therapist by the Gestalt Institute of the Pacific, (now PGI) which is leading the field in developing the relational dimension of gestalt practice. She has recently ‘retired’ from her work as the Director of Behavioral Services of a large, non profit agency in Las Vegas, Nevada and is now in private practice and continues to train and supervise interns from various mental health disciplines. She has also completed her fourth year as a candidate in psychoanalysis at ICP and finds an exciting correspondence between gestalt theory and the current psychoanalytic writings. Faculty Links
Jan Ruckert, Ed.D.Jan is a founding member and past-president of the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Los Angeles (GTILA) and served as chair of the Faculty Training Program for ten years. She is in private practice in Westwood and has been training and supervising psychotherapists in the United States and Europe since 1970. She has published numerous poems and books (including The Four-Footed Therapist). As an artist, author and poet, she uses the gestalt approach to encourage writing and art expression. Friedemann Schulz, M.F.T.Friedemann has served on the board of directors and is past-president of the Gestalt Institute of Los Angeles (GTILA). He teaches in the psychology department of Antioch University, and he maintains a private practice in West Los Angeles. One of his particular interests is the application of Gestalt Therapy concepts to the transpersonal aspects of psychotherapy. Friedemann is a senior instructor of Shintaido, a Japanese body discipline,and he has conducted workshops in the US, Mexico and Germany that draw from eastern philosophies and gestalt therapy principles. Gary Yontef, Ph.D., F.A.Clin.P.Gary, a fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology and Diplomate in Clinical Psychology (ABPP), has been a gestalt therapist since training with Frederick Perls and James Simkin in 1965. Formerly on the UCLA Psychology Department Faculty and Chairman of the Professional Conduct Committee of the L.A. County Psychological Association, he is in private practice in Santa Monica. He is a past-president of the GTILA and was longtime chairman of the faculty. He is on the editorial board of the International Gestalt Journal (formerly The Gestalt Journal), the Gestalt Review, and editorial advisor of the British Gestalt Journal. He is a co-founder of PGI. He has written over 50 articles and chapters on gestalt therapy theory, practice, and supervision and is the author of Awareness, Dialogue and Process: Essays on Gestalt Therapy. Ruella Frank, Ph.D.Ruella has been exploring early infant movements and their relationship to the adult for over thirty years. She brings many years of experience to her work as a Gestalt psychotherapist – as a professional dancer, yoga practitioner/teacher, student of the concepts of Body/Mind Centering, and student of Laura Perls, co-founder of Gestalt therapy. Ruella is director of the Center for Somatic Studies, faculty at Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy and the New York Institute for Gestalt therapy, and also teaches throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico. She is author of articles and chapters in various publications, as well as the book Body of Awareness: A Somatic and Developmental Approach to Psychotherapy, available in four languages.
Frank-M. Staemmler, Dipl.-Psych.Frank lives in Würzburg, Germany. He has been working as a gestalt therapist in private practice since 1976, and as a supervisor and trainer since 1981. He has written about sixty articles and book chapters and three books and has edited five other books. He is a frequent presenter at international conferences and has served as editor of the International Gestalt Journal from 2002 to 2006 and as guest editor of the British Gestalt Journal (15/2, 2006). He is now coeditor of the new Studies in Gestalt Therapy: Dialogical Bridges.
Donna Orange, Ph.D., Psy.D.Donna holds doctorates both in philosophy and in clinical psychology. She teaches and supervises primarily in her two institutes, IPPS (Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity, New York) and ISIPSe’ (Institute for Specialization in Self Psychology and Relational Psychoanalysis, Roma). Her publications include The Development of Peirce’s Theism; Emotional Understanding: Studies in Psychoanalytic Epistemology; as well as with Robert Stolorow and George Atwood: Working Intersubjectively: Contextualism in Psychoanalytic Practice and Worlds of Experience: Interweaving Philosophical and Clinical Dimensions in Psychoanalysis.
